Urbn Leaf San Ysidro

As the team behind the Urbn Leaf store designs, Heleo Architecture + Design continues to take non-traditional spaces and transform them from the inside out into one-of-a-kind branded cannabis retail experiences. With the opening of the first store in 2017 in the Morena district, Urbn Leaf at San Ysidro is now one of the company’s seven stores operated in California and designed by the local firm. All of the stores are anchored in a sleek organic-industrial aesthetic, which was developed in tandem with the overall company branding, also by Heleo.

Located in a traditional shopping center, the design features clean, sleek interiors with rugged and natural materials, including custom hardwood millwork, blackened steel display shelving, illuminated graphic lightbox displays, and patterned tactile wall paneling. A bright lobby with lowered ceilings and leather upholstered built-in seating receives patrons with a welcome check-in, which then leads to the retail floor in a double-height ceiling space, creating a sense of grandeur and expansion. Walnut and glass cabinets present carefully curated products, track lighting discreetly illuminates the display walls while large industrial lamp pendants and linear fixtures hang from above to create dimensional planes within the space. The result is a timeless aesthetic and common language developed through the repeatable yet flexible elements that can be adapted to different contexts.
