UCSD Mesa Housing Pedestrian Bridge

This bridge, located at UCSD’s Mesa Housing, elegantly links two mesa tops over a natural canyon, a common occurrence in our San Diego landscape. This is a nearly level bridge that provides seamless pedestrian travel while blending with the environment on which it rests.

LED lights border the edges, preparing the way for plenty of travel by foot or bicycle as the ends span slightly out to invite chance meetings and lingering. The design emphasizes movement with its subtle curves and smooth lines. The bridge eventually transitions to the natural canyon side land form showcasing sensitivity to its environment and forward-focused design.
