The Grossmont Union High School District entrusted HED with the conceptual design of a multi-functional Event Center which represents the local heritage of El Capitan High School while providing preforming arts facilities. The 15,886 square-foot complex consists of an event space, lobby, concessions, band room, practice rooms, dance studio, drama classroom and restrooms.
Create an iconic new multi-functional event center with indoor/outdoor areas which provide unique experiences for the student learning.
Establish an architectural integration with existing campus and tie into cultural heritage of El Cap spirit.
Splitting the complex into two buildings to create a dramatic entrance with which also creates usable outdoor student spaces.
Integration of architectural and landscape features such as sycamores, mountains, and horizons inspired by alma mater poem.
Create a flat floor with retractable seating and ceiling pipe grid, allowing for varied events (drama production, band performance, gallery show, testing, banquet.)
A welcoming event center for the students and community of Lakeside.
Enriching the school: “Vaquero Pride.”
“Sycamores and mighty mountains, colors black and gold, these will be our inspirations as our lives unfold. Guide us to the understanding of our fellow man. Let us look to new horizons, hail El Capitan!”
