Nominating as an onion. This behemoth building fails to incorporate the North Park community character and is a real-life collage of clashing styles. The building is too heavy looking, the modern color palette tries to mask this fact. It combines three styles, maybe even more, that are difficult to explain.
At the eastern end, a plain space with floor-to-ceiling windows for retail space throws homage to big-box suburban retail “architecture.” Moving east, this massive stairwell with open ceiling, seemingly going nowhere interesting. Continuing to the heavy, yet modern painted building, with a few more retail spaces. Only to end to the west with a didactic “BLVD” and opening to a bar/restaurant area so sterile it lacks character and creativity. Generally speaking, it’s frontage zone lacks harmony, style, and is uninviting while the building itself is too heavy.
