UCSD’s Altman CTRI building sits adjacent the highly visible / sculptural Jacobs Medical Center along the east side of Interstate 5 in La Jolla. The building is a 365,000sf seven-story research facility with three stories partially below grade, including a below grade loading dock. The building will include wet and dry research labs, laboratory support space, clinical area, offices, an auditorium and a café.
The building is elegant, modern, textural & allows a natural flow of light and ventilation through the site planning around an internal courtyard. The concrete work makes hits another wonderful continuation of the Kahn’s Salk architecture in La Jolla, however the glass detailing & fins bring this refined building identity of its own amongst the UCSD medical campus.
The project is currently registered to receive LEED GOLD status.
