STEAM Pavilion

STEAMConnect’s annual series of lectures, debates, and workshops revolving around the links between Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics is the context behind the construction of the pavilions designed by LG architects, Taller Emergente Architecture and sixteen students of the NewSchool of Architecture&Design in San Diego at SILO (Makers Quarter). With a low budget and only a four-week execution time, the facilities were conceived as spaces for informal gatherings and venues for artistic performances. The design was drawn up during the first week, he wooden pieces were cut by computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines during the second, assembly took place during the third, and the structure was transported to the site of the event during the fourth.

It was a very rewarding experience to work with everyone involved in the project. I hope more projects like this can emerge so that San Diego can be known as a place that empowers creativity.

Projects of this size and use have a unique opportunity to explore and experiment with materials, activities and construction methods. It was a great experience for the users, the students and instructors.

A very unique space that helped connect professionals and community members from across the country. Fantastic way to allow students to engage in real projects while also helping the community!

I was fortunate to be a partner on this exciting project. From design to execution, I was impressed by their talent and how quickly they were able to make it happen. Our guests were blown away by the pavilion! Not only was it beautiful to look at, but it was integral to the functionality of the event – stage for the awards, seating, the bar and entry way.
