Shift Apartments, East Village

The Shift building at 1501 Island Ave. in East Village is a new eyesore on the San Diego skyline.  It looks as if a heart was transplanted on the shoulder of a boring 1970s constructed building in an attempt to look edgy and trendy.  It is awful.  They advertise “serious chill potential.” I think the best thing about the form of this building is that when you live there you don’t have to look at it on the skyline (provided you are inside at the moment).  See the article in the Union-Tribune by Phillip Molnar, May 31, 2018, entitled, “What do you think of this East Village apartment building”  — “reaction to shift will probably be in the eye of the beholder.”
