Plunge Pool and Fit Mission Beach

Multidisciplinary design firm Jules Wilson Design Studio has completed the full interior design for The Plunge at FIT, a newly renovated historic pool located within Belmont Park at FIT Athletic Club. Jules Wilson Design Studio was responsible for the full redesign of the facility, from the conceptual architecture to interior design. The firm worked with lead architect James Gates to realize the vision of the project, taking care to preserve the history of Southern California’s oldest largest swimming pool. The Plunge swimming pool was the centerpiece of Belmont Park when it opened in 1925. The existing Spanish Renaissance-style building was demolished due to its corroded structure, and a new building was designed and built out of aluminum and glass.

The striking new 3-story building integrates the surrounding environment and local history with sustainable technology and a modern aesthetic. The state-of-the-art facility features a glass retractable roof over the historic pool. The group fitness mezzanine has floor-to-ceiling operable glass walls looking over the ocean. The fitness rooftop has a functional training turf with panoramic views of the ocean. The reception inside Fit is contemporary and sleek, detailed with teak, blackened steel lighting, LED walls and custom retail with spa locker rooms.
