One Paseo was sold to us as “a main street” for Carmel Valley, “a place for Carmel Valley to gather”. Instead it is an eyesore with multiple missed opportunities. The retail buildings look like cheap warehouses, the “gathering” spaces sit on dirt, the main street is a maze, and as of yet, not one solar panel is there to be seen. I’ll admit it’s a work in progress – the office park and residential units (luxury condos, no low-income housing here) are not completed, but to me, they are just background noise. It’s the “main street” aspect that is a complete failure, aesthetically as well as keeping with “smart neighborhood planning” that was promised.
