Lift, Carlsbad

SCA Architecture designed an innovative 44,000-square-foot “Work, Eat, Play,” mixed-use development on 4.45 acres in Carlsbad.  The amenity-driven development includes shops, restaurants, dining patios, lounge area, grill, fire pits, barbeque, water features, bike racks/lockers and electric vehicle charging stations.

Lift breaks the tropes of what conventional office space should be into a two-story, creative-office space with outdoor collaborative areas and individual outdoor work pods.  It also includes a roof deck observation area, a couple of hidden widow walks, and outdoor office community gathering areas, including an outdoor movie theater and standup games such as bocce ball.  Two restaurants are also seamlessly part of the campus. Bi-folding doors blur the lines between the indoor/outdoor of the tenant space.

The idea at Lift was to provide a campus-like environment with onsite amenities with all corridors open on the perimeter of the buildings promoting interaction between tenants and the community. Lift improves the community with outdoor amenities that invite the public to use the site along with the tenants.
