Jeune et Jolie is a modern, French-inspired bistro in Carlsbad Village. Its owner/chef team had launched the family-friendly Campfire in 2017, and when a 2000 SF karate studio vacated barely a block away, they re-teamed with the Campfire designers to offer the community a sexier space and enhanced dining experience. Jeune et Jolie (the name translates to “Young and Beautiful,” and also an homage to Elsie June and Margot Jolie (daughters of owner and chef, respectively) is Campfire’s contrasting, lighter, and prettier “little sister,” and a more grown-up space for romantic dates.
A custom Hestan cooking suite centered in the wide-open kitchen creates a theater-style showcasing of the chef’s preparations for the 90 or so interior seats. The soft palette pays subtle homage to both its beach proximity and Parisian chic with coral-colored crushed velvet booths and laurel shaded cabinetry. Polished brass and chrome glisten under white globe fixtures evoking an aura of retro and romance. Voluptuous curves add a sensuality throughout the space – from the arched façade to oval cabinet cutouts; a rounded antique glass and wood hostess stand, an unconventionally detailed circular bar, and beveled brass edges of the bistro tables – you won’t find many hard edges at Jeune et Joie.
