High Moon Studios— one of the gaming studios behind “Destiny” and “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare”—relocated to a 30,000-square-foot corporate headquarters facility to accommodate their rapidly growing team. High Moon wanted their new workplace to be a memorable place for visitors, a space that conveys their passion, creativity and non-traditional work culture. Stripped of cubicles and a “corporate” atmosphere, rooms are defined by big sliding doors and the strategic use of colors, materials and branded wall graphics.
A large, open design studio houses up to 175 developers, game specialists and artists, with access for each group to control their own lighting based on their work needs. Specialized spaces, including a sound mixing room, recording studio and a large flexible, collaborative space, promote mobility and flexibility, allowing for large, collaborative meetings among team members. With a focus on creating a sense of family in the workplace, the building features an expansive break room and hospitality area and is complete with board and card games and screens for company wide events.
The unique structure of the existing shell space has exposed wood, concrete, and white steel elements. The design was influenced by these elements and the furniture style desired by the client. Non-structural steel half I-beams frame out the central active space collaborative space and conference rooms. The same steel captures the exposed edge of the large columns in the studio space. By carrying the steel, wood and concrete throughout the office we unified the front active spaces and the back working studio space.
