This East facing wall of 707 Broadway, EMMES’ Chase Bank building, was a 63′ x 273′ empty gray concrete wall that needed lighting to illuminate and complement the planned mural. Using Philips Color Kinetics, the vibrant and dynamic lights can be programed to 13 million different colors and endless patterns. EMMES changes the lights for major holidays, sporting events and special occasions. The eight lights had to be mounted on top of the building, facing downward, to be within guidelines of San Diego’s Dark Sky regulation. It is now an iconic building in San Diego, one can see it when flying in at night and from the I-5, 15 and 94 freeways.
