BO-beau kitchen + caché and Tacos Libertad is the much buzzed-about, three-part hospitality concept by San Diego-based Cohn Restaurant Group in partnership with designer and chef Philippe Beltran (BO-beau kitchen + bar, Coin Haus, Draft Republic, Indigo Grill). Located at 1023 and 1027 University Avenue, this project welcomes a fourth location of the bohemian Cal-French BO-beau kitchen. Next door – caché, an intimate 19th century-inspired Parisian craft cocktail bar is hidden behind Tacos Libertad, a not-for-profit, quick-service gourmet taqueria (the very first of its kind in San Diego).
+ TACOS LIBERTAD | Drawing inspiration from international travel, Beltran incorporated colorful and whimsical mural art from the album of global musician Manu Chao for a unique aesthetic. The restaurant also boasts vibrant tiles in hues of blue and green, while a 300 square-foot patio accommodates street side alfresco dining. In the hours after midnight, Libertad transforms into a walk-up storefront, with late-night snacks served out of a Dutch door for grab-and-go access.
+ CACHÉ | Caché (translated to ‘hidden’ in French) is a 19th century-inspired Parisian speakeasy hidden behind Libertad and accessed via a faux door disguised as a commercial restaurant walk-in freezer. With the interior designed by Beltran, the sophisticated and intimate cocktail den is detailed with vintage chandeliers that hang from white-washed exposed beams, a bright Toulouse Lautrec-era hand painted mural, antique velum document-lined walls with historic estate documents, plush furnishings, living trees and more.
+ BO-BEAU KITCHEN | The interior makes use of procured vintage finds and rustic farmhouse elements to create a romantic ambiance with one-of-a-kind plaster wall art alongside handcrafted chandeliers. The apothecary-inspired space also showcases exposed wood rafters revealing oxidized ceiling panels and a cozy back terrace with an oversized fireplace and lounge seating.
