ART & COFFEE Building Restoration

Restoration of 1940’s Art Deco building in Mission Hills that was originally built for a neighborhood market. Wife (ART) and Husband (COFFEE) team took possession of the building in the Fall of 2016. The structure had been covered years earlier with a mansard shingle roof and a contemporary stucco exterior. Removal of the roof uncovered its original Art Deco motif complete with original ornaments and details. Era-appropriate stucco and fresh paint was added, and, later, a deck and planter boxes. The resulting restoration has brought new life to the bend in the road where State Street meets Reynard Way.

I got to watch this transform from an eye sore to a delightful corner stop with a bit of a retro twist to it, I am glad to see a commercial element like this bleeding out from little Italy. It’s a welcomed improvement to the neighborhood.
