The founder of Mosher Drew Architects, Robert Mosher, FAIA, has completed the circle in his professional life. His first design project in San Diego was at the historic Green Dragon Colony property in La Jolla which his parents had purchased in 1944.
Today, sixty-eight years later, he has recently finished his last design project in San Diego, also on the Green Dragon Colony property -- the awe-inspiring Eddie V's restaurant building, a highly successful new addition to the San Diego restaurant scene.
His design includes views through the building to La Jolla Bay and an inviting 5,000 square foot bricked courtyard which slopes gently from the Prospect Street sidewalk to Eddie V's through landscaped terraces which lead to Mosher Point, a new viewing area dedicated to the architecture of Robert Mosher.
The unique design includes multilevel, handicap accessible, ocean view dining with large pivoting windows which open the restaurant to the sea. An exterior dining deck looks directly into the La Jolla Cave and across the bay to the coastline. A 110 year old clinker brick fireplace was restored and integrated into the restaurant, providing a cozy inglenook in the bar of Eddie V's. A highlight of the building for restaurant patrons is its rooftop dining under high-tech umbrellas and its jaw-dropping ocean/coastline view.
Don Leonard, AIA and Eric Soldan, AIA of Mosher Drew assisted in the implementation and construction of the project.
Jurors, this is one to see.
