The Duck Dive Bar

An upscale experience in an understated, casual beach atmosphere...spot on for PB.

The Duckdive takes a new perspective on a restaurant – bar that draws on surf culture for its inspiration.  Too many spots in PB put up a framed photo of some wave half way around the world, a beer logo longboard and call it a surf theme.  Meanwhile, Crystal Pier and other surf spots host a huge talent pool both artistically and in the water.  For the Duckdive, the goal was to tap into local and current surf culture.  This led us to explore current surf technologies, board shaping, and graphic art.  The pier’s rusty, weathered condition also served as a reminder to keep the design raw and too incorporate weathered materials and materials that age well.  The wood ceiling creates a breaking wave from beneath and a warm vaulted space under the void. We designed the glowing layered wall of recycled surfboard sections for lighting, and to balance the bold ceiling.  Don’t judge by photos, go see it at night.
