Charles David Keeling Apartments

While there is a lot to like with this project - particularly it's LEED Platinum certification and the delicate way that the shadows from the screens play across the walkways as the sun moves across the sky - the overall impression of the project evokes a penitentiary or some sort of barracks. It's just not a very warm or attractive building, and the monotone colors only reinforce that impression of drabness. It also turns its back on the ocean views visible from the upper floors, as the balconies and main windows face the courtyard on the other side.

In the answer to that question about whether green and/or modern architecture needs to be grey and drab, this architect's answer is apparently a resounding "yes".
