Hello!

Hello!.jpg

You offered suggestions. Lots of them. We took 'em, and viola! A new site is borne.

As we blaze into the 2012 season of Orchids & Onions nominations, the San Diego Architectural Foundation (SDAF) is pleased  to introduce this new site with a fresh look and updated features. We hope you like what you see - and we are very excited to see your nominations added to the crop!

To be considered for 2012 jury selection, your submission must be received by August 15.
You may view submission guidelines here.
Yes, it's time to take your camera for a walk and let us know what you think makes San Diego blossom, or stink!

Have your say!
The success of Orchids & Onions is due to the citizens of San Diego (that's YOU!); public nominations and feedback about the nominations published on the O&O website are integral to planning, growth and future development of our city. and we are forever grateful for the support and engagement you've shown Orchids & Onions since reinvented the program in 2006. That's why we've made the following changes in order to make your experience on the site more satisfying and productive.

New stuff.

  • You probably already noticed the fabulous new nomination grid on the home page, but did you notice the "hover" feature? When you roll your curser on the project photo, its name and nomination category will appear. In addition, if the project has received an Orchid or Onion, the award title will also be indicated. Simply click on the photo for more project and award details.

  • You may now filter easily through Orchids, Onions, specific categories or all nominations by clicking on the filter tabs above the grid.

  • Our archives are now more comprehensive, and include O&O Award Ceremony information, award recipients, event photos and as much historical information as we can get our hands on. We are still compiling them, but have a look at the 2011 archives (one of our best and most favoritest years so far) to get an idea.

  • You will enjoy a faster upload of your nomination photos, which must be a minimum of 700 pixels wide in order to ensure a high-quality depiction of your favorite (and least favorite) nominated projects.

  • Comments are now administered through Disqus. This means that you may now sign-in using your Facebook, Twitter or other preferred social media identity, and easily share your thoughts and engage others in the conversation about your favorite (and least favorite) nominations. Your comments will be more like live discussions with realtime posting and updating. We love the Disqus platform - and we think you will, too!

Well, that about covers it. You know we always want to hear from you, so let us know what you think of the new site. And of most importantly, and get out there and have a look at your community and let us know what makes your heart soar, or your eyes sore!
