Point Loma High School Addition

onion
This school building earns at A+ for mediocrity! The recently completed addition to the iconic Point Loma High School is a major disappointment to the community. The prominent location along a busy Point Loma street calls for a more friendly gesture to the neighborhood than this boring box of a building. How can the students who learn within the walls of these classrooms be inspired to greater things when their learning environment is so mundane? The School District's admittedly restricted building budget and time constraints are no excuse for dull design. Our children deserve better. This architect failed this assignment.

Not only the design is

Not only the design is mundane, it is a waste of space. The 2 story building is built higher than California Coastal Commission allowances, despite blocking ocean views and vistas to Mt Solidad from neighbors houses and football field spectators and participants, mindboggling!! The front (pictured) looks bad, but the back looks much much worse. They actually replace a beautiful ocean vista view ( a rarity among high schools )with industrial HVAC equipment partially screened by see through fabric! You can not make this stuff up! The building could have been built lower, with a flatter roof and HVAC off to the vacant side, with no decrease of utility, less money, and no view's of anyone blocked. These SDUSD project planners and architects did a grave disservice to the community and school they are mandated to serve. We are stuck with this onion forever! They should be fired, period. To really put salt on our wounds, the exterior and interior coating (stucco-like) is already cracking, which will require additional expense to maintain/fix this eye watering eyesore! It boggles the mind that people get paid with our money to do this to our neighborhood, mindboggling!!
