Marston House

orchid
Orchid to SOHO for stepping in to keep the Irving Gill-designed Marston House open to the public when the Historical Society had to give up on it. This 1905 building stands on the edge of Balboa Park in beautiful gardens and is a great local example Arts and Crafts architecture. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and not only is it important architecturally but historically in terms of Marston himself as a civic leader and the role he played in the development of San Diego. Show SOHO that their efforts to keep this house available to the citizens of San Diego are appreciated.

Thank You

My husband and I were married in the Marston House's formal garden seven years ago. I was so pleased to see that SOHO has preserved the property and kept it open to the public. Recently I was able to walk the grounds and show my six-year-old where Daddy and Mommy "tied the knot". Thanks SOHO for preserving our family's memories!

What a fabulous job!

I am amazed at what SOHO has been able to do in so short a time! This is such a worthy project in that a whole new generation is able to experience the estate and house like never before. Everything is being so well taken care of and SOHO is to thank for it.

Wonderful project

How great that this beautiful property could continue to be preserved and open to the public! Congratulations! Katherine Miller

Bravo!

SOHO deserves tons of credit for turning this property around. BIG ORCHID!

Orchid to SOHO for preserving San Diego's Architectural Gems

SOHO has earned an Orchid, not just for the wonderful job they have done with the Marston House, but for all their years of working to preserve San Diego's architectural gems.

Marston House

I volunteered for a number of days helping get the Marston House ready for its grand reopening. I can say I've never seen such a dedicated effort in putting a house into tip top shape. I discovered muscles I didn't know I had--I think everyone who volunteered ended up with sore muscles. But all that "elbow grease" really made a difference. Such a gorgeous house that everyone can now enjoy. Great job SOHO and its volunteers.

Marston House

SOHO has in less than one years time made the Marston House estate into a destination site. San Diegans can look to the future with confidence now that this wonderful home and gardens will be there and open to the public for future generations.SOHO indeed should be acknowledged with an Orchid.

Marston House

I could not agree more! For far too many years the poor grand Marston House sat with minimal effort in it's management. Seemingly, overnight SOHO invigorated new life into the house museum. Today the House is alive with visitors, events, weddings and a stunning garden. A wildly successful Seventh Avenue Home Tour and May Day event have shown the Midas touch of SOHO. Their knowledge, financial resources, close relationship with the preservation community and shear manpower made the Marston House a success. An Orchid to SOHO for pulling a rabbit out of their hat! ....hmmmm They've done so well with the Marston House, shouldn't they operate the Villa Montezuma as well?

Marston House

SOHO has succeeded in restoring this historical home to its former glory. Docents are very well-versed in the home's history, the Marston Family, and the contributions that the Marston Family has freely contributed to San Diego and Balboa Park. The furnishings and artwork at the home are remarkable. The gardens are beautiful. The property has been activated with tours, events, and educational activities. I am so pleased that SOHO has the Marston House under its management. Both SOHO and the Marston House are San Diego gems.
