The RAMCO gas station in Julian was remodeled with no regard to the town's historic character or to the signage requirements of the Julian Architectural Review Board. The station's plastic orange signs and cluttered lot contrasts with Julian's Gold Rush atmosphere. The station's architectural offenses are made to look all the worse because it sits next to the "Julian Coffee House," a quaint and period correct building that enhances the historic quality of Main Street. You can tell the hysterical society has posted. You people are ridiculous. Look at the historical pictures and you'll see power lines up and down the streets, not special composit poles for lighting. And don't forget the historical brothels. I bet you don't have a problem buying gas there if you need it. Do Julian a favor and buy your gas at am/pm in Ramona. Way more convenient right? An orange sign just make the world so terrible. This is not only a historical tourist trap that you can hardly drive through during the weekends, it's a working town where families live. Give it a break. Pick up trash on the road that is brought up from the city if you need something to do with your time. The store is an improvement, very convenient and the prices are good. There are many more residents thankful for the gentlemen that have taken over the store and saved Julian's only working gas station. There always seems to be a handful trying to control everyone where ever you go. Even in Julian.

I dont see annyone complaining about the Julian Garage painting over the words on the building. They dont look historic anymore. The section with the Tattoo shop and the hot dog shop,.....That building is far for historic looking. The bank is not historic,.... The fire depts...not historic. I say Get over it. They are the only gas station in town. 10 cents more expensive that driving down the hill....It could be alot worse. And alot of our locals work there. So in wanted to bull doze the building down you'd be putting people out of jobs, taking money from the town, and making people drive further to get gas. That would be more in gas because youd need to buy extra just to cover the trip...and more in tow fees when u run out of gas on the side of the 79. I think its petty. Julian is supposed to be so welcoming and caring...but this town in ridiculous. Why not chip in and help our friends at Ramco look more ancient instead of bombarding them with negativity.
Thanks fellow Julianers

I can't believe I would ever see a better reason to implement a community design guideline document. To have a city with such a historic look and feel to be graced with such a blight is very sad.
