This small Craftsman home that stood for decades at the southeast corner of Tenth & Robinson (1005 Robinson Avenue) in Hillcrest was taken down. It was so sad to see this happen to the Sear’s catalog house that has greeted Hillcrest arrivals from the 163N exit. Unfortunately, we are erasing our history and the community character at an alarming rate. The Historical Resources Board didn’t think it was worth saving. Shame on the developer for this pimple on the history of our neighborhoods character. In its space are two townhomes that look like they are built with the wavy aluminum that was on our 1950's patio. The character of our sweet little Craftsman will not be forgotten.

The design form/ materials are interesting but overall a sophomoric effort. The designer does not integrate the building into the neighborhood fabric. Very poor urban/ site design. The duplex has no front porches, or second floor windows on Robinson. Front doors are not welcoming, just cut out of the box. Use of vinyl windows with aluminum siding is a poor decision. Keep it consistent and use aluminum windows. It is not community friendly. Just money grubbing friendly. The former house, while not worthy of historic designation did have a much better community presence. The house should have been saved and an additional unit built at the rear. More money would have been made, the community and the environment would also have been better served.
